After watching the live stream of Thakoon Panichgul's Spring 2012 collection, I instantly thought, "Grannies Gone to Reno" (in the best possible way) - due to it's Lilly Pulitzer esque prints, candy colored hair, color blocked cowboy hats & gold lamè flooring. Granted, Thakoon thought of something slightly different: the perspective of America from afar, as narrated by India.

Just in case you were the type of girl to stress over what to wear to the golf course, Miuccia Prada suggests some exaggerated khaki gear and fifties inspired florals, just so you can accompany your man in his wasp-y Prada gear, to the club's course (because you weren't actually thinking of picking up a nine iron in these clothes).

Like I said, "just in case you were the type of girl" - slim odds? Probably.

"Miucca Prada gives the American summer a swift kick in the seat of its WASP-y golf pants, and the result is utterly original." -GQ on Prada's Spring collection for the guys, which undoubtedly sums up Miuccia's Resort offerings, too.

The runway show featured looks from over twenty-five designers including Prada, Gucci, Balenciaga,Burberry, Yves Saint Laurent , Marc Jacobs and Alexander McQueen, among others. Scott and his crew were totally open to bringing a sense of humor to the shots.", James Marsden told GQ on shooting Band of Outsiders' Spring look book. Scott Sternberg shot Marsden using his vintage polaroid at the Gaylord Apartments in Los Angeles.

Sternberg always hits the nail on the head when it comes to how I want to dress; however, probably unwillingly, as he really captured what I want to wear as a teenager. What am I saying?! This is exactly how I want to dress now, as a kid and how I'd like to dress in adulthood.

Fall 2011: Jason Wu

On Friday, I was able to catch the Jason Wu livestream while I was in my German class and the distraction from my utter failure at learning the language was long overdue. Jason Wu said he was inspired by photos he had seen of the construction process of Versailles. The contrast of the opulence with the raw edges of the construction are evident throughout the collection and even the set, which had a glass runway laid out over a concrete floor and plywood boxed around the chandelier. During class I found myself using the word dope (out of character) too often.

His debut collection (current season) was the only one in New York to offer a taste of what Parisian Houses (like Celine and Givenchy) ultimately did for the Fall 2010 season. Krakoff's latest collection sparks no less buzz as it offers smart workwear options like suede skirt-suits and exotic wrap skirts.

Following the frustration in finding the perfect menswear blog, I came across Grungy Gentleman, Jace Lipstein's answer to the modern man. Since Lipstein seems to be the master of Q&A (interviewing neckwear phenomena, Alexander Olch and menswear maverick, Michael Bastian), I found it necessary to pick his brain.

The Runway Room: When did you start 'Grungy Gentleman'?

Grungy Gentleman: June 16th, 2010

RR: Now, what exactly is a Grungy Gentleman?

GG: Grungy Gentleman erases the stereotype that all gentlemen  have to be frumpy and grandpa-like. Grungy Gentleman injects  a bit of youth and flair into your step; while still remaining sartorial.

RR: Do you think this describes your personal style as a whole?

GG: Grungy Gentleman is a play on words of how I dress.

RR: I see that you've now added a Kiel James Patrick collaboration to the already impressive collaborative offerings on the site, which has been your favorite?

GG: My first video with SPREADhouse was so killer. They are super-talented. As for the Grungy Gentleman bracelet, that was pretty special.

RR: Print or Viral?

GG: Healthy mix of both. There is something liberating about sitting down on a couch with a GQ and getting your monthly dose.

RR: Where do you see the magazine/print business going in the future?

GG: I see print being offered in different ways. For example, GQ is available via the iPad now. Amazing stuff!

Spring 2011: Browne & Ford Foray Into Womenswear

Thom Browne:

As a guy, I can't say that I am thrilled with this expansion; there are so few designers that strictly focus on Menswear. Even though Tom Ford infamously designed womenswear for Yves Saint Laurent and Gucci, he's been out of the womenswear market for sometime, now; I will say that it is time for him to reenter this market. I cannot say the same for Thom Browne, as most of his looks from his womenswear presentation seem identical to Browne's collaboration with Brooks Brothers. However, I can see the pieces being extremely versatile and wearable (in a fun/adventurous kind of way).

Spring 2011: A Punk in Paris

The New York, London & Milan shows declared a preppy romanticism and such Paris shows as Balmain literally screamed, "I'll do it my way!" (the soundtrack professed).

Christophe Decarnin's way wasn't necessarily a way for which I would've liked to travel. Decarnin's latest collection seemed revisited & was cluttered with everything/anything tiny including, cropped-biker pants that appeared as if a direct copy of Isabel Marant's Fall 2010 success. Balmain seems to repeat itself each season.

Google defines Punk as, "rebelling against the established order" and Decarnin established said punk fashions during the Fall 2008 season.

This confusion has sparked a scatterbrained vibe throughout the industry, "I think it's much more about fashion culture than fashion [which is why it seems all over the place].", admitted the New York Times' columnist, Cathy Horyn to Harper's Bazaar.

For the Spring 2011 season, Balenciaga took over Balmain's former role as rebellious, offering wearable pieces that explore new silhouettes. Balenciaga's show opened with a slew of unknown models that Ghesquiere's crew cast off the street (as apposed to the industry/establishment's casting of the same top models for each show). Nicolas Ghesquiere explained prior to the show, "I didn't want clones".

I would much rather take the road less traveled, for which Ghesquiere has paved extremely well! Despite the toughness exuded by the houndstooth leather and clunky brogues, the simple Tuxedo cuts and sheer panelling of the shirts add a dose of softness, making for a fresh take on punk style.

Nicolas Ghesquiere told Style.com's Nicole Phelps, "It's about individuality", which certainly backs the theory that every fashion house has a knack for something different at the moment.

Spring 2011: Girl by Band of Outsiders

For Spring 2011, Scott Sternberg introduced the newest edition to the Band of Outsiders clan, Girl. Sternberg set up shop with Band of Outsiders [Man], the original menswear range; following BoO was Boy, a fresh take on tomboy fashion from the perspective of a menswear designer. Girl explores unchartered territory for Sternberg which was (if I say so) successfully chartered. Note the striped umbrellas, crisp whites accompanied by sheer shirtings and gold brogues - a fantastically fun and sophisticated ensemble, whilst maintaing the typical Band of Outsiders vibe: the twisted prep.

Fall 2010: Lanvin x H&M

I'm extremely excited for this collaboration, and not because I like Lanvin (because I do), but in relation to the collaboration's appealing menswear (personally, I find it to be the best menswear collaboration to-date). I plan on posting my full collaboration-rundown later on this week, once all 40 looks are released (only 25 were released today). So, enjoy several of the campaign images and the comical trailer.

The Lanvin x H&M campaign was shot by David Sims and features Hannelore Knuts, Jane Schmitt, Tati Collitar and Natasha Poly. The collaboration (naturally) looks cheap for Lanvin which I reckon is a good thing considering 90% of the "collab" is straight out of previous Lanvin collections (i.e. majority of shoes via Spring 2009); I think it'd be rather unfortunate for those ladies who shawled out boatloads of cash for RTW to appear as if they're wearing H&M.

[UPDATE: Check-out the H&M website for all Lanvin/H&M locations; none happen to be in my state, nor any neighboring states. Perhaps, you'll luck out?]

Spring 2011: The Fine Floridians

Marc Jacobs:

I first noticed the "Floridian" trend (if you will) at Marc Jacobs where palm trees adorned gilded pantsuits and dresses; breast appliqués appeared to be mini beach umbrellas and the candy stripes evoke a Sonia Rykiel dose of fun (suiting a top 10 Spring Break destination). Big, floppy hats accompanied humidity ridden frizz in bright, radiant colors. The hats also reflect the raffia trend for accessories, which Vogue generously curated.

Stella McCartney:

If an entire look cluttered with oranges does not scream Florida, then I have no idea as to what may. I especially enjoyed Stella McCartney's Spring collection (as I frequently do), so expect a review/rant in full, soon.

Prabal Gurung:

Prabal Gurung boasted a collection full of electric color blocking which gratifies the bright, art deco architecture of South Beach. The clean geometric prints opened Gurung's latest collection and certainly packed punch; perhaps foreshadowing things to come for the young designer?

Spring 2011: The Golden Age of Fashion

Most fashion critics and journalists have decided that the latest collections are undoubtedly 70s; however, I see them as being a reflection of the jazz age. In collections from Louis Vuitton and Chanel, the mood generated an age of opulence.

Karl Lagerfeld built a massive garden inside the Grand Palais, emulating a garden straight out of 'The Great Gatsby'. F. Scott Fitzgerald's masterpiece (in my book, no pun-intended) epitomizes the opulence and grandiose happenings of the Jazz Era .

During said era, women began to embrace cosmetics, as they were formally reserved for prostitutes; Chanel's look fully embraced this "feminist movement" with a smokey eye and knack for darkness. Models followed suit at Louis Vuitton.

Marc Jacobs described his latest collection for Vuitton as affluent, a "Paris Is Burning, glamour for the kids". The silhouettes were a fusion full of melancholy as the ankle trimming lengths from the 20s and 30s combined with the Studio 54, party girl from the 70s. The decades fused, yet again at Chanel where 70s platform sandals and ankle skimming frocks trimmed in feathers met to satisfy a perfect juxtaposition.

One could also argue that Chanel was straight out of the club kid era of the 90s and we really could go on for days about the purpose of these collections, but I think it's safe to say that it's all about fun and options. However, the options seem to be from every decade imaginable and simply all over the place.

I suppose it's all a question of taste, which coincidentally was another key player in Jacobs' collection. Marc confessed to Style.com, "Taste is so subjective and I don't believe that there is such thing as good taste and bad taste." He later added, "Taste is an awful word and no one should ever use it."

The latest Alexander Wang collection is a whitewash of wonderfulness. [nymag.com]

At Alexander Wang, hair was whitewashed to fit the mood of crisp whites and to also, add depth to the many sheer pieces (make note of the nose rings, which added a feeling of toughness and balance to the collection-not to mention, another level of cool).

At Altuzarra, hair was stiffly, slicked back (perhaps, poking fun at the models who succumb to beyond-greasy-hair during the hubbub of fashion week?) and varied from blue to orange, focusing on the tribal influence of the collection.

Bottega Veneta:

The entire collection looks extremely comfortable yet, refined at the same time. The pair of gray sweat pants were perfect, zippers were even fastened at the side (1). I think the Teva-esque sandals paired with tacky tourist socks would complete my life. I just bought a pair of Tevas for the Baths at Virgin Gorda (even though, we didn't quite make it to the BVI) and wondered what on earth am I going to do with these things, now...Bottega has answered! Also, the accessories were absolutely flawless.

Costume National Homme:

I always seem to like Costume National Homme and the Spring 2011 surpassed my expectations. The 'short-shorts paired with longer trench coats (3,4) mesh perfectly and I'm enjoying the color Nude, a lot.

Neil Barrett:

I'm going to keep it short and simple, Neil Barrett is awesome and us happen to sharing the same surname is also way awesome. Unfortunately, we are not related. I remember when I was 11 and reading GQ, my eye would always fly to the Neil Barrett items, I must've gotten a knack for cool at a young age (HAHA, me cool?).

Burberry Prorsum:

As far as I'm concerned, this collection is the epitome of cool. I am officially obsessed with the above second look, the shrunken suit paired with patent leather sandals, a fantastic motorcycle jacket on-top and a canvas messenger is perfection. I think the leather pants are really cool and all, but all I can think of is leather + 90 degree weather and its un-fucking-bearable!

Jil Sander:

My goodness, would you take a look at that color? And that layering of the different jackets is fantastic! Whenever menswear collections attempt florals, they usually look way too feminine and completely lack masculinity. But, the latest Jil Sander collection is the exception. L/s floral T's layered under trench coats appeared to be tattoos and the Georgia O'Keefe-esque shirts were beautifully, masculine.

I will definetly continue to post menswear tomorrow, morning. If you absolutely cannot wait for anymore of my seriously amateur commentary, please head on over to Cleveland Luxury (hyperlinked) where a few snippets of mine have been posted.

Resort 2011

Calvin Klein:

I think the collection managed to sway away from being stark and cold which, is a great accomplishment after using off-whites throughout the entire collection. I think the pops of Nude and the one pop of color (3) did a great deal of help; the collection is actually a breath of warm, fresh air. Also, look at those awesome shoes!

Celine:

There were much better looks beside the above four, but the rest of the looks were photographed so strangely that the "collage line-up" would've looked like pure chaos. I share the same theory that I did with Calvin Klein Resort as I do with Celine, pops of color made an otherwise stark (in a good way) collection breathe. Pheobe Philo dealt canary yellow versions of what has become the signature Celine bag, color block separates and gold 'dog collar' chokers.

Jason Wu:

I always seem to enjoy Jason Wu's collections; they're always rather feminine and joyful. And this resort collection is no exception, if I were a gal to purchase Resort this is exactly what I'd want to look like on vacation in somewhere tropical.

Givenchy:

The Givenchy Resort collection is tough yet, shares feminine characteristics. The lace maxi-dress (1), white chiffon frock (3) and the sheer bottom half of the fourth dress all mixed with leopard, gold hardware and tough tailoring make for perfect synergy.

Stella McCartney:

Sometime ago, I purchased the Sundance Iconoclasts episode on Stella McCartney and artist, Ed Ruscha on iTunes. I watched it (again) on the plane to St. Thomas and I can't help ,but love everything that Stella does. Everything she said in that 'documentary, I agreed with. Her spirit is so uplifting and positive, her collections always evoke this in subtle ways.

Instead of going on and on about Resort '11, I'm going to hop on the Menswear Spring 2011 bandwagon, but before I do so I think the Resort collections have been fantastic and wanted to mention Suno, Reed Krakoff, Proenza Schouler, Pucci, Nina Ricci and Preen being several others I thoroughly enjoyed.

Saga John Galliano is quite grand, eh? Well, if you'd like the full episode...you can find it under the related videos on YouTube. I just didn't want to post a bunch of embed videos. When John Galliano lost his financial backer for his Fall 1994 collection, Andre Leon Talley hopped in and convinced Sao Schlumberger to host Galliano's show in her Paris Mansion. Luckily, the collection and Sao's home can be found in this-here video, a rarity since its older than myself. Notice the disturbing amount of cigarette smoke in Sao's house---its nauseating. Nonetheless, this video is a must see!

Fall 2010: Paris Top Five

Miu Miu:

I don't know what it is about Miu Miu, but its always great! Especially, Spring 2010.

Balenciaga:

The Balenciaga collection was plenty-full of color, shape and fun. Also, the soundtrack was pretty awesome!

Dries Van Noten:

I kinda hated the 'leopard scarves at Dries but, the A-Line skirts paired with oversized sweaters made up for the sloppy scarves of sorts.

Hermes:

I guess you get Leather Catsuits, Button-ups-etc, when Jean Paul Gaultier designs for Hermes (what a sharp contrast compared to the 'Tennis Whites collection Gaultier did for Hermes S/10)!

Sonia Rykiel:

How could you not love Sonia Rykiel? I mean those Pom-Poms are the cutest!

Fall 2010: Milan Top Five

Emilio Pucci:

Emilio Pucci was extremely hot, from head-to-toe. I loved the sexiness and somewhat erotic vibe found in the sheer, laced-up numbers. However, the Hair reminds me of Ke$ha (not good).

Prada:

I hate to reiterate but, Prada was quite erotic with the accentuated bust and exaggerated shape. I also love that normal models were thrown into the mix (for once); however, for Miuccia to be one of the first of the season is quite odd. Maybe its a sign?

Dsquared2:

Dsquared2 is typically trashy and mostly denim. However, this season was mostly leather and fur (with the appropriate amount of 'trashy). I think it was one of their best collections [as of late].

Etro:

I don't normally pay much attention to Etro, since its usually cluttered with Maxi dresses and paisley prints. However, this collection was impeccably styled and tailored.

Versace:

At Versace, tailored coats and knitwear were paired with metallic crotch-skimming dresses. You know how I enjoy juxtaposition.

Fall 2010: London Top Five

Erdem:

Even though, this was an Autumn/Winter show, Erdem managed to squeeze in Florals, Colors and even 'happiness. The show opened with a Black Cape with painted florals-absolutey marvelous!

Charles Anastase:

I love the 'Circus-Clown vibe of this collection. Also, the girls look dramatically tall (due to the long silhouettes and outrageous platforms).

Burberry Prorsum:

The toughness combined with the distressed femininity creates a very interesting contrast. I really love those Aviator jackets; they're quite similar to those Balenciaga jackets.

Christopher Kane:

Once again (as mentioned for Burberry), the contrast between lace and 'dominatrixesque sandals is wonderful. Also, the painted florals are quite lovely in an Autumn/Winter 2010 collection.

Pringle of Scotland:

I think I'm only fond of the Pringle collection because their campaigns with Tilda Swinton are so wonderful! This collection is quite reminiscent of prior Balenciaga collections (specifically, Fall 2004; those Aviator jackets, again) , no?

Its an extremely sad and tragic event. I still cannot grasp that McQueen has passed; he was a true visionary. I hope he managed to capture that freedom which he couldn't grasp in this lifetime. Do head on over to the Barney's blog, where Julie Gilhart wrote a nice piece on 'Lee'. I do worry about the future of the House of McQueen, may be they'll bring on a new Creative Director. But, no one will ever be able to live up to the iconoclastic, Alexander McQueen. Rest In Peace Mr. McQueen, you will be missed!

Diana Vreeland's Garden of Hell as decorated by Billy Baldwin. Diana Vreeland remains one of the few people I truly admire, not only for her superb taste but, for her 'I Don't Give a Hoot Attitude' and her wildly spontaneous risks. Risks which eventually led to her departure from Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. Her Harper's Bazaar column, 'Why Don't You...?' remains a favorite of mine which still runs in the UK edition of Harper's Bazaar. In the last photo (her Blue Bedroom), the scarf was placed onto the coverlet for which she would lay our her shoes and handbag in preparation for the busy day ahead.

Chanel Haute Couture S/10 was easily my favorite as to date. I thought the "short-suits" were a fantastic, modern approach to the Classic Chanel skirt-suit. How fantastic was the finale; Baptiste as the "Tin Man"? Baptiste reminded me of my Kindergarten Halloween costume, emphasis on Tin Man! Also, Dior was quite boring,no? I love Galliano, but you always know what to expect; a bombardment of Historical references as apposed to anything Modern.

I ventured out to the Outlet Mall this afternoon. Luckily, all the sales were still in progress; the Outlet mall advertised that all sales ended yesterday. After schlepping around the Saks Fifth Avenue outlet plenty full of True Religion and Juicy Couture trash, was a section marked additional 40% off. This was intriguing of course; the racks were full of deep discounted Chanel and Dries Van Noten! Seriously deep discounted; we're talking a Dries Van Noten dress marked down to $400 with an extra 40% off! Anywho, yesterday I made a trip to the Country Antique Mall where I purchased these vintage Hunting pants! My dad says I look like a clown; hopefully a mighty dandy clown. I hope everyone has a wonderful New Year. Its a tradition for my family and I to venture out to my Grandparents for Lobster tails and Filet Mignon; a scrumptious way to ring in the New Year!

I found the Tails in my Dad's closet (shh!), they were his when he played the Cello in the Symphony (the exact Symphony will be left a mystery). I thought that the Holidays called for some formal attire! I scored the McQueen shoes on eBay sometime ago for a real bargain; the tags from Barneys were still intact! I have my eyes on a pair of Lambskin Ann Demeulemeester trousers (eBay), so here's hoping that they don't exceed my budget! My apologies for the haphazard photos, I received a wonderful MacBook for Christmas and I have been playing around with photobooth! I also lost the charger for my Camera; so until I find that, these photos will be the best quality I can manage to produce.

P.S. Happy (belated) Holidays everyone! Also, please excuse the "heap of fun" off to the right in the first photo, Its just my Sferra Bros. coverlet and a leather jacket!

Such a great editorial, I cannot pinpoint wether its the styling I'm so fond of, or well..no it's definetly the styling! The Prada chandeleir dress (nom nom nom!). It's also the first editorial (that I've seen) with the Spring 2010 Alexander McQueen collection. Ahh, and Phi...poor Phi! I'm so bummed that Phi has shut down, a real loss to the Fashion World.

At five feet ten and a size 4, supermodel Lara Stone has struggled to fit in. Stone is about 2 sizes larger than her modeling peers, but this has not stopped her career from skyrocketing. “Lara Stone has a gorgeous women’s body,” affirms fan Karl Lagerfeld. Stone has appeared in ad campaigns for the likes of Givenchy and has walked the runway for almost every major designer including Marc Jacobs and Balmain. In the article Hello Gorgeous, Vogue recalls the days when stylists came to a shoot armed with pins to make the clothes fit the models and examines the absurdity of the thought that clothes only hang nicely on super-skinny girls (aka coat hangers). The opposite is also true – some clothes look better on bodies with “boobs,” which is why Stone’s career has flourished. Could her unexpected success mean the return of curves? In the January issue of Vogue, Stone opens up to Rebecca Johnson about how difficult it can be to constantly hear how different she is, her methods of coping, and how she views herself now.

At two in the morning, under a starlit Paris sky, I looked out across the courtyard in the Marais, and I could recognize the silhouette of my favorite friend-a man I have known intimately for so many years that I endearingly refer to him as Papa-the great designer Azzedine Alaïa. There he was in his atelier, as always, totally immersed in his work. His show was just days away, but you might see that silhouette there any night. He works whenever inspiration strikes.

I had just come from a dinner with Azzedine's usual eclectic mix of guests, which included some of the most creative people in Paris. He had arranged the seating and prepared the food himself-as with his collections, his hand was in every detail. When I'm in Paris, these dinners are the highlight of my visit. Staying Chez Alaïa reminds you of being at a large family house where conversation and the exchange of ideas are the order of the day-and the night.

Azzedine might be the designer who best understands a woman's anatomy, which makes sense because he also is a man who understands a woman's heart and soul. The poetry of Azzedine comes from the fact that he is always free. Buying back his name from the Prada Group in 2007, he formed a partnership with the Compagnie Financière Richemont which allows him to design his way-usually very late at night with an old film playing in the background. Azzedine is not only a great couturier, he is a historian of couture and he is now setting up a foundation to preserve his archives and his priceless haute couture collection.

Azzedine Alaïa is a classicist, possessing a total understanding of the architecture of the female form, of how to drape, and of how to use materials. He doesn't design for a season, he designs for a body. And he continually reinvents himself, always perfecting and improving on what he has done so brilliantly for a lifetime. I began collecting Alaïa when I started modeling for him as a teenager, and I own pieces that continue to astonish me every time I put them on. He even designed my wedding dress. I am honored that Azzedine entrusted me with this interview and that I can share with readers an intimate glimpse of a man who defines genius.

STEPHANIE SEYMOUR BRANT: Okay, Papa, I thought it would be good to start from the beginning. Tell me about growing up in Tunisia.

AZZEDINE ALAÏA: My grandfather in Tunisia was a police officer. He worked in the ID card department. When I didn't have school, he would take me to work with him. I would sit next to the woman who made the ID cards, and she always took three pictures of people. This woman would use a cutter-the photo-booth paper was very thick-then she'd glue and stamp one picture onto the passport, give me another to staple onto their police files, and the third one would be thrown away. I would gather these scrapped photos from the garbage, put them in an envelope, and organize them later at home. Yes, I know...I've already mentioned The Catwalk Cats, but its just so cute! I already find Grace a lovely person who makes me laugh; well her "performance" in The September Issue did at least-and now she has a book on cats wearing couture! TRUE LOVE!!! Anywho, I love my little kittens and couture, so this book is quite perfect,no? Well I must feed those pesterous beasts now: aka Boo Boo and Ranger (dont ask).

So amazing! I need to see this film in entirety. I haven't a clue why Rosanne would be sitting front row, I suppose Paris Hilton is her modern day equivalent; obnoxious.However, any film with Naomi, Linda, and Christy commands my attention. I will most definitely add this to my Christmas list; as well as Grace Coddington and Didier Malige's Catwalk Cats. C'mon...I mean its Cats wearing Couture-how could you go wrong!
