Spring 2012: Thakoon

After watching the live stream of Thakoon Panichgul's Spring 2012 collection, I instantly thought, "Grannies Gone to Reno" (in the best possible way) - due to it's Lilly Pulitzer esque prints, candy colored hair, color blocked cowboy hats & gold lamè flooring. Granted, Thakoon thought of something slightly different: the perspective of America from afar, as narrated by India.

Resort 2012: Prada

Just in case you were the type of girl to stress over what to wear to the golf course, Miuccia Prada suggests some exaggerated khaki gear and fifties inspired florals, just so you can accompany your man in his wasp-y Prada gear, to the club's course (because you weren't actually thinking of picking up a nine iron in these clothes).

Like I said, "just in case you were the type of girl" - slim odds? Probably.

"Miucca Prada gives the American summer a swift kick in the seat of its WASP-y golf pants, and the result is utterly original." -GQ on Prada's Spring collection for the guys, which undoubtedly sums up Miuccia's Resort offerings, too.

Over the weekend I rented Sofia Coppola's Somewhere on iTunes and just this month, Vogue published an editorial featuring Somewhere's Elle Fanning in the movie's main pad.

Diana Vreeland's Apartment

Diana Vreeland's Garden of Hell as decorated by Billy Baldwin. Diana Vreeland remains one of the few people I truly admire, not only for her superb taste but, for her 'I Don't Give a Hoot Attitude' and her wildly spontaneous risks. Risks which eventually led to her departure from Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. Her Harper's Bazaar column, 'Why Don't You...?' remains a favorite of mine which still runs in the UK edition of Harper's Bazaar. In the last photo (her Blue Bedroom), the scarf was placed onto the coverlet for which she would lay our her shoes and handbag in preparation for the busy day ahead.

At five feet ten and a size 4, supermodel Lara Stone has struggled to fit in. Stone is about 2 sizes larger than her modeling peers, but this has not stopped her career from skyrocketing. “Lara Stone has a gorgeous women’s body,” affirms fan Karl Lagerfeld. Stone has appeared in ad campaigns for the likes of Givenchy and has walked the runway for almost every major designer including Marc Jacobs and Balmain. In the article Hello Gorgeous, Vogue recalls the days when stylists came to a shoot armed with pins to make the clothes fit the models and examines the absurdity of the thought that clothes only hang nicely on super-skinny girls (aka coat hangers). The opposite is also true – some clothes look better on bodies with “boobs,” which is why Stone’s career has flourished. Could her unexpected success mean the return of curves? In the January issue of Vogue, Stone opens up to Rebecca Johnson about how difficult it can be to constantly hear how different she is, her methods of coping, and how she views herself now.

“It’s depressing when the clothes don’t fit and you are always the odd one out…I was on a shoot last week and the stylist took out this tight corset dress and said, ‘Here, put it on,’ and I was like, ‘Who are you kidding?’ There was no way, so that was very rude of her. It’s like, come on, she’s a woman; whether you’re buying jeans at the mall, or wearing couture, you know what it’s like for clothes not to fit. It’s not an easy kind of rejections, because it’s very personal. It’s you, you’re body. You take it to heart.”
